A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress, ADC and former National Publicity Secretary of the defunct New Peoples Democratic Party, Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, has described the decision of former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, to purchase the presidential nomination form of the ADC as a major boost to the party’s political relevance ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a statement on Thursday, Eze said Amaechi’s entry into the presidential race had injected renewed confidence, credibility and momentum into the ADC, positioning it as a formidable alternative in Nigeria’s political landscape.
According to him, Amaechi’s vast experience as former Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, two-term governor of Rivers State, former Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum and former Minister of Transportation gives him a strategic advantage in the race.
He said the former minister’s decision to seek the ADC presidential ticket amounts to a strong endorsement of the party’s ideology and capacity to provide credible leadership for Nigerians.
Eze noted that Amaechi’s participation was expected to attract more progressives, technocrats and young Nigerians dissatisfied with the performance of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.
“Indeed, the purchase of the ADC presidential form by Amaechi is more than a routine political development; it is a bold statement that the party is ready to play a decisive role in shaping Nigeria’s democratic future,” he said.
He further stated that Amaechi’s political influence, particularly in the South-South and other strategic regions of the country, would strengthen the ADC’s organisational structure and electoral viability ahead of 2027.
Reeling out what he described as Amaechi’s achievements during his tenure as governor of Rivers State, Eze said the former governor embarked on massive reforms across critical sectors of the state economy.

Among the projects highlighted were the construction and furnishing of over 160 model primary healthcare centres and 350 model primary schools equipped with modern facilities including ICT centres, libraries and sick bays.
He also cited the establishment of 24 model secondary schools across the 23 local government areas of the state, as well as the commencement of a new Rivers State University project in the Greater Port Harcourt area.
Eze further listed agricultural initiatives such as the Songhai Farm project in Tai Local Government Area, the development of a 10,000-hectare oil palm estate and banana plantation, and the Buguma Fish Farm.
According to him, Amaechi also implemented empowerment programmes for fishermen and women, floated the state-owned Treasure Energy Resources Limited and initiated independent power projects in Omoku, Trans-Amadi and Eleme to improve electricity supply.
He added that the former governor introduced scholarship schemes through the Rivers State Sustainable Development Agency, RSSDA, and promoted environmental sustainability through landscaping, flood management and recycling projects.
The ADC chieftain also pointed to the Greater Port Harcourt City project, the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium and the Rivers Monorail project as some of the landmark initiatives undertaken during Amaechi’s administration.
Eze maintained that the former minister’s record in office demonstrated his capacity to provide leadership at the national level, expressing optimism that the ADC would emerge as a strong force in the 2027 elections.
