The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Lagos State Council, has unveiled activities for its 2026 Press Week, with former Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dr. Dakuku Peterside, billed to deliver the keynote public lecture.
The week-long event is scheduled to run from September 28 to October 4, 2026, and is expected to attract journalists, media professionals, journalism students, industry experts and other stakeholders.
According to the programme released by the council, the Press Week will open on Monday, September 28, with a Health and Awareness Walk.
The activities will continue on Wednesday, September 30, with a public lecture titled, “Politics, Ports and the Public Interest: The Media’s Catalytic Role in Driving Economic Growth.”
Peterside, a former NIMASA Director-General, will deliver the lecture at the Radio Lagos/Eko FM Multipurpose Hall, Lagos Television (LTV) Complex, Lateef Jakande Road, Agidingbi, Ikeja, Lagos, at 10 a.m.
The lecture is expected to bring together maritime experts, media practitioners, journalism students, policymakers, industry players and other stakeholders to examine the intersection of politics, maritime development, the economy and the public interest.
Speaking on the significance of the annual event, Chairman of the NUJ Lagos State Council, Mr. Adeleye Ajayi, described the Press Week as an important tradition that provides journalists from different media organisations with an opportunity to interact, fraternise and strengthen professional relationships.
Ajayi said journalists, who routinely report issues affecting individuals and society, also needed opportunities to come together and celebrate their profession.

“This is a yearly event that brings journalists from different media houses under one roof.
“As journalists, we go the extra mile to report issues affecting other people and society at large. Therefore, coming together to interact, fraternise and strengthen our bond is not out of place.
“The Press Week is an event journalists always look forward to, and we must do all within our reach to ensure that this year’s edition remains one of the best,” he said.
Other activities on the programme include the Chapel Rendezvous, scheduled for October 1, at the LTV premises from 4p.m.
A Juma’at Service will hold on October 2, at the Lagos State Secretariat Mosque, Central Business District (CBD), Alausa, Ikeja, at 1p.m.
The same day will also feature a Gala and Awards Night at the BOS Hall, LTV Complex, Agidingbi, Ikeja, beginning at 4 p.m.
The Press Week will climax on Sunday, October 4, with a Thanksgiving Service at the Chapel of Christ the Light (Interdenominational), CBD, Alausa, Ikeja, at 1 a.m.
The Lagos NUJ Council urged journalists across the state to participate actively in the activities, stressing that the Press Week would provide opportunities for networking, knowledge exchange and the strengthening of professional bonds.
The council also said the celebration would serve as an avenue to recognise the contributions of journalists to the growth and development of society while promoting unity and reaffirming the values of responsible and professional journalism.
The 2026 NUJ Lagos Press Week is expected to bring together media practitioners and stakeholders for a week of professional engagement, fellowship and celebration.
