A Crown for Service: Mambilla Honours Hassan Haman

In recognition of service to his people and investments in the development of his homeland, Dr Hassan Haman Ali-Yusuf has been conferred with the traditional title of Dan Sardauna Mambilla by the Sardauna Traditional Council, Gembu, Taraba State.

The honour, which adds another feather to his traditional cap, was conveyed in a letter signed by His Majesty, Ta’abon Mambilla, HRM Dr Shehu Audu Baju II, President of the Sardauna Traditional Council and Chief of Mambilla.

The monarch said the conferment followed a unanimous decision of the council under his leadership, describing the title as a recognition of Haman’s hard work, patriotism and selfless service to the community, irrespective of religious or ethnic differences.

In the words of the traditional ruler, the honour was bestowed in recognition of his “hard work and sense of patriotism for selfless services irrespective of religious or tribal affiliation.”

The monarch expressed confidence that the new title holder would live up to the expectations of his people and continue to contribute to the unity and progress of the Mambilla community.

For Haman, the new honour is another traditional distinction, having previously been conferred with the title of Maidala Mambilla, meaning generous one and silent achiever.

Beyond the titles, his reported investments in agribusiness and infrastructure have attracted attention in the region. According to information from the council, he has commenced cattle-rearing and irrigation projects in more than three locations across the vast Mambilla landscape in Gembu.

His construction company, Haman & Foreman Construction Company, was also said to have secured licences for two quarry and mining sites, with equipment deployment already underway.

Reacting to the honour, Haman said his commitment remained to justify the confidence reposed in him by creating jobs, building wealth and contributing to the development of the region.

Born into the family of late Ambassador Jolly Tanko Yusuf, the businessman is a Taraba indigene whose roots are firmly connected to the Mambilla community.

The council maintained that the honour was earned through sustained commitment and tangible investments, rather than mere prominence.

Like a traditional charge to greater service, the title comes with expectations of responsibility, unity and continued contribution to the land and its people.

A date for the formal coronation is expected to be announced after notification of the Taraba State Governor and other relevant authorities and completion of the gazetting process.
