A’Ibom poll: Tension in Uyo over plot to arrest YPP witness

There is presently tension in the Barrack Road area of Uyo, Akwa Ibom State capital over a standoff between security personnel and the convoy of Senator Bassey Albert.

A source who was presently at the scene of the face off on Tuesday, told Frontier News that heavily armed Policemen blocked the convoy of Senator Albert around barrack after he left the proceeding the governorship election petition tribunal.

The source said the mission of the police men was to arrest a University of Uyo, staff, Mr. Daniel Akpan, who had earlier testified before the election tribunal today.

According to the source, the policemen shot sporadically and deployed tear gas thereby causing confusing as people scampered for their safety.

At press time,  calm had returned to the area as the Senator’s convoy was said to had later maneuvered its ways out of the stand-off.
