Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State of PDP

The Court of Appeal sitting on appeal over Governorship Election Tribunal has sacked Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State.

The court declared candidate of All Progressive Congress, APC, in the March 18, election, Mr. Nentawe Goshwe, governor of the state.

The appellate court held that Governor Mutfwang was not validly nominated and sponsored by the PPDP, to participate in the governorship poll.

The Court of Appeal panel, led by Justice Elfrieda Williams-Dawodu, directed the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to withdraw the Certificate of Return that it earlier issued Mutfwang.

Recall that INEC had declared that Mutfwang of the PDP won the gubernatorial contest with a total of 525,299 votes, ahead of the APC candidate, Goshwe, who polled 481,370 votes.

Goshwe challenged the election at the Plateau State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal.

The lower tribunal dismissed Goshwe’s petition as lacking in merit.

Goshwe then appealed to the Court of Appeal.

The appellate court in its judgment on Sunday, nullified the election of Mutfwang and declared Goshwe winner of the governorship election.
