Babalakin & Co. has concluded the judging phase of its 2026 Art Competition and Exhibition, paving the way for the unveiling of winning entries at an exhibition scheduled for July 3, 2026.
The annual initiative, now in its second edition, is designed to celebrate, promote and support emerging artistic talents across Nigeria.
A panel of six distinguished judges, comprising Dotun Sulaiman, Mairo Bashir, Duke Asidere, Iyeyinwa Momah, Kola Aina and Nana Aumah Sonoiki, met on June 6 to assess entries submitted by artists from different parts of the country.
The judges reviewed works inspired by this year’s theme, “Japa to Japada: Beyond Borders, Within Boundaries,” and selected outstanding entries based on creativity, originality, technical excellence and storytelling.
According to the organisers, the judging session featured extensive deliberations as the panel evaluated a wide range of submissions that reflected the experiences, aspirations and perspectives of young Nigerian artists.
The firm said the quality of entries underscored the depth of talent within Nigeria’s growing creative sector and reinforced the importance of providing platforms that encourage artistic expression.
Beyond the competition itself, Babalakin & Co. described the initiative as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility, CSR, programme aimed at creating opportunities for artists, promoting sustainability within the creative ecosystem and supporting the long-term growth of the arts industry.
The initiative was conceived by the firm’s Managing Partner, Mr. Olawale Akoni, SAN, as part of efforts to harness the transformative power of art in preserving culture, inspiring innovation and stimulating meaningful social conversations.
As part of its support for finalists, the law firm said it would provide reference materials to aid artistic research as well as basic training on contracts and image rights through its Creative Industries Practice.
The firm noted that the training is intended to equip emerging artists with practical knowledge required to navigate the business and legal aspects of their careers, including intellectual property protection, licensing, contract negotiations, brand partnerships and other commercial engagements.
According to the organisers, the initiative is designed not only to showcase artistic talent but also to help young creatives build sustainable and successful careers in the arts and broader creative industries.
The winning artworks will be unveiled during the exhibition on July 3, where guests, stakeholders, clients, artists and members of the public will have the opportunity to view the shortlisted entries and witness the announcement of the winners.
Babalakin & Co. said it remains committed to supporting the next generation of creative talents through initiatives that promote culture, community development and artistic excellence.
The firm added that this year’s exhibition promises to be an inspiring celebration of creativity, innovation and the enduring impact of art on society.
