A frontline Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, aspirant in the upcoming 2024 governorship election, and Edo State Deputy Governor, Mr. Philip Shaibu, has submitted his PDP governorship nomination form in Abuja.
Shaibu, described himself as the most qualified and competent candidate for the party’s ticket.
Submitting his governorship nomination form at the Wadata Plaza, PDP National Secretariat, in Abuja, he said as a native, he understands what it takes to turn Edo State around for good and ensure raid development.
He expressed readiness to work for the people who believe in his capacity and capability to move the state forward.
He also urged the people of Edo to resist those attempting to reintroduce godfatherism to the state through their associates and cronies.
According to him, “I have come to submit our nomination form. I use the term ‘our nomination form’ because the Philip Shaibu campaign represents the people of Edo.
“We initiated the journey of rescuing Edo State in 2006, with a clear vision of reclaiming the state for the people.
“Despite facing challenges along the way, we succeeded in returning the state to the people. Unfortunately, there was another attempt to hijack the state, and we stood firm against it.”

“This election poses another challenge because of a ploy to take governance from the people and hand over to businessmen, and we are firmly rejecting that.
“Edo State cannot regress; it must continue to move forward with power vested in the people, as PDP declares, ‘Power to the People,’ not to business associates.
“I have faced harassment and intimidation. However, I have emerged successful in every instance. Unlike newcomers or outsiders, I understand the workings of Edo State government due to my experience in the legislative arm and eight years as the deputy governor.
“I am not running for governor due to personal ambition but to save Edo State from businessmen seeking to take control,” he added.
Deputy National Organizing Secretary of the PDP, Pascal Adigwe, who spoke on behalf of the National Working Committee, NWC, said Shaibu is not a novice in elections, while hailing the deputy governor’s developmental strides.
“Your Excellency, you have performed admirably, and we are aware of your records. We know you, as we know the others.
“You are not a novice in election contests, and we are familiar with your past victories. We hope and believe that you will conduct this race with integrity,” he added.
