The Society for Corporate Governance Nigeria today announced its readiness to host the 2023 edition of the Annual Corporate Governance Conference themed “ESG and Corporate Governance: Aligning Strategies for Sustainable Success”.
The hybrid event is scheduled to hold on October 5, 2023 at 10:00am in Victoria Island Lagos under the distinguished leadership of its President, Mr. Muhammad K. Ahmad, OON, and is said to be a prominent event for Governance professionals, C-suite Executives, Industry Leaders and Regulators.
In an interview with Mr. Ahmad, OON, he stated that this year’s theme underscores the growing significance of Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) principles in the contemporary business landscape.
He emphasized that, “Strong governance requires board oversight and accountability on ESG. Rather than a check-the-box exercise, ESG must become integral to business strategy. Assessing ESG-related risks and opportunities through an ESG lens can reveal vulnerabilities as well as new growth drivers.”

Commenting on the theme, Mrs. Chioma Mordi, Chief Executive Officer of the Society added; “In recent times, there has been a seismic shift with investors, regulators, employees and consumers increasingly scrutinizing how companies address ESG risks and opportunities. A company’s ESG performance has become pivotal to its ability to attract investment and manage risks. Weak ESG scores can damage a company’s reputation, impact its regulatory obligations, and hurt its bottom line.”
Championing this year’s discussion is the Keynote Speaker, Dr. Jackie Chimhanzi and Guest Speaker, Ambassador Shuaibu Adamu Ahmed.
A lineup of seasoned panelists comprising of Ms Ngozi Edozien, Mr Mark Hoffman, Ms Chioma Afe, Mr Adedayo Amzat and Mrs. Nkemdilim Begho who will be moderating the sessions.
