A Federal High Court sitting in Awka, Anambra State, has convicted 28 internet fraudsters on separate one count charge of impersonation and attempt to obtain money by false pretences, brought against them.
They convicts were prosecuted by the Enugu Zonal command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.
Trial judge in the matter is Justice Nnadi Dimgba.
The convicts include Emmanuel Katchi, Chukwudi Chiazor, Chinonso Raymond, Ejike Ezeoma, Okafor Silas, Akuh Chidera, David Orobo, Emmanuel Orizu, Uche Ejidike, Ezechukwu Chibuokem, Nwanolue Godswill, Nnadi Arinze, Kemelu Obinna, Chukwuebuka Onyemaobi and Chukwuemeka Ajaegbo.
Others were Ebuka Obinyo, Shedrack Aaron, Israel Chibuike, KingdomAmeachi, Ezeh Makachukwu, Victor Hezikiah, Anyidiaso Patrick, Somtochukwu Ezeobi, Asouzu Chukwuma, ThankGod Obioma and Chukwuemeka Ireka.
They all pleaded guilty to their respective charges and were convicted and sentenced to one year imprisonment each, starting from September 19, 2023.
The convicts were, however, given options of fine and community service to clean the premises of the Federal High Court within the coverage of the EFCC Enugu Command.
Meanwhile, items recovered from them as proceeds of crime were ordered forfeited to the Federal Government.
