Children’s Day: Oborevwori advocates inclusion, equal opportunities for every child

Governor  Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State, has called on parents, teachers, leaders and governments at all levels to build a caring and supportive society where every child is protected, included and empowered to achieve greatness.

Oborevwori made the call on Wednesday during the 2026 National Children’s Day celebration held in the state.

Represented by his deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme, the governor said this year’s theme, “Future Now: Promoting Inclusion for Every Nigerian Child,” underscores the need to ensure that no child is neglected or denied equal opportunities because of gender, background or physical ability.

According to him, children remain the pride, hope and future of the nation and must be given the necessary support to thrive.

He said: “Children’s Day is a time to honour and appreciate our children, who are the pride, hope, and future of our dear state and nation.

“This year’s theme reminds us that every child matters and deserves equal opportunity to learn, grow and succeed regardless of gender, background or physical ability. No child should ever feel neglected, rejected or left behind.”

The governor stressed the importance of showing love, understanding and encouragement to children living with disabilities and special needs, noting that every child possesses unique talents and abilities.

He commended the You Matter Charity Foundation, led by the wife of the governor, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori, for its advocacy and support for children with autism and other special needs.

Oborevwori also praised 15-year-old Master Kanyeyachukwu Tagbo-Okeke for setting a Guinness World Record for painting the world’s largest art canvas to raise awareness for autism.

According to him, the achievement demonstrates that disability should never be seen as inability.

The governor urged children across the state to remain focused on their education, respect their parents and teachers, and work hard towards achieving their dreams.

“Always remember that you have the right to education, healthcare, protection and equal opportunity to succeed in life,” he added.

He assured that the state government, through its MORE Agenda, would continue to invest in education, healthcare, security and programmes aimed at improving the welfare and development of children in Delta State.

The event featured the cutting of the Children’s Day anniversary cake and march-past displays by pupils and students from various public and private schools across the state.
