Osun APC senatorial candidate, Adegoke honoured by Georgia House of Representatives

Prominent Nigerian lawyer and All Progressives Congress, APC, candidate for the Osun Central Senatorial District in the 2027 general election, Dr. Akin Adegoke, SAN, has been honoured by the Georgia House of Representatives in the United States for his contributions to the legal profession, human rights advocacy and democratic governance.

The recognition was formally presented during a ceremony held in Atlanta, Georgia, as part of the inaugural Emerging Leaders Dialogues and Q&A Series, a platform designed to engage thought leaders on governance, leadership and societal development.

The honour followed the adoption of Resolution 1449 by the Georgia House of Representatives on February 24, 2026, commending Adegoke for what lawmakers described as his distinguished legal service, commitment to human rights and contributions to constitutional democracy.

In the resolution, Adegoke was described as “an internationally respected legal practitioner, constitutional scholar and human rights advocate” whose legal career has been marked by extensive pro bono representation in matters relating to environmental justice, labour rights, freedom of information, electoral integrity and the protection of vulnerable and marginalized persons.

The lawmakers noted that Adegoke has consistently demonstrated dedication to defending the public interest and promoting accountability, often taking on powerful institutions in pursuit of justice and the rule of law.

The legislative commendation was facilitated by five members of the Georgia House of Representatives, including Segun Adeyina of the 110th District, Adesanya of the 43rd District, Gabe Okoye of the 102nd District, Olaleye of the 59th District and El Mahdi Holly of the 116th District.

The event attracted members of the Nigerian diaspora community, American public officials and business leaders. Among the dignitaries in attendance were Segun Adeyina, Oba Bernard Akinrimisi, Kunle Masha, Otunba Rasaq Ibrahim, Olanrewaju Suraju and his wife, Damilola Suraju, Bello Oyakhilome, as well as the convener of the programme, Dr. Atilade Oshoniyi, and his wife, retired Magistrate Ronke Oshoniyi.

Also present was Terry Cummings, a member of the Georgia House of Representatives, who joined other guests in celebrating Adegoke’s achievements and contributions to public service.

As part of the programme, Adegoke delivered a lecture titled, “Leadership Before Power, Service Before Position,” in which he examined Nigeria’s leadership challenges and proposed practical solutions to the country’s economic, social and political issues.

The lecture emphasized the importance of value-driven leadership, accountability in public office and governance rooted in service to the people. Participants actively engaged in discussions on democratic development, institutional reforms, citizen participation and national development.

In its resolution, the Georgia House of Representatives stated that the promotion of democratic values, constitutional governance and human rights remains a shared global responsibility.

The lawmakers added that Adegoke exemplifies the ideals of justice, integrity and public service admired by the people of Georgia.

The resolution further directed the Clerk of the House to provide an official copy of the commendation to Adegoke in recognition of his accomplishments and contributions to society.
Speaking during the event, Representatives Segun Adeyina and Terry Cummings praised Adegoke’s commitment to democratic values and public service.

Cummings described the senior advocate as a courageous leader whose willingness to speak truth to power represents the kind of leadership needed to drive positive societal transformation.

“It’s people like you that are needed to change the lives of the people. I can see you speak truth to power and as you speak from your heart,” Cummings said.

The international recognition adds to Adegoke’s growing public profile as he prepares to contest the Osun Central Senatorial seat on the platform of the APC in the 2027 general election.
