South-West Zone of National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, has called on President Bola Tinubu to address the widespread hunger and economic hardship in the country under his administration or they would take to the streets in 14 days.
Briefing newsmen on Monday in Osogbo, Osun State, the zone’s coordinator and general secretary, Alao John and Sanni Olamide, lamened the imminent economic crisis fueled by inflation, currency depreciation, and the unavailability of essential supplies vital for basic survival.
They said that if President Tinubu fails to alleviate the widespread hunger and economic distress plaguing the nation under his administration, they will take to the streets in 14 days.
They said: “The association is hereby issuing a 14-day ultimatum for President Tinubu to respond to our demands and implement concrete measures to tackle the cost of living crisis.
“Failure to do so will result in mass protest. NANS Southwest Zone D is going to mobilise students and citizens to take to the streets in large numbers.
“The impact of these economic pressures has been particularly severe on the average Nigerian, making it increasingly difficult to afford basic necessities such as food, shelter and health care.
“Many families are struggling to make ends meet, with stagnant wages and rising prices pushing them further into poverty.”
The association tasked Mr Tinubu to immediately take concrete actions aimed at alleviating the living crisis.
“There is an urgent need for swift and decisive action to mitigate the impact of the cost of living crisis and restore hope and dignity to millions of struggling Nigerians,” they added.
