Aondo urges church to drive community development

Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Terkaa Aondo, has called on the church to partner with communities in promoting development, youth empowerment and security.

Aondo made the call at the weekend during the pastoral visit of the Catholic Bishop of Lafia Diocese, Most Rev. Dr. David Ajang, to Agon, his village in Obi Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.

Speaking at the event, Aondo, who donated food items to the church, urged religious institutions to collaborate with community leaders to address pressing social and economic challenges.

He appealed to the church to support initiatives in education, healthcare, agriculture, youth development, poverty alleviation and skills acquisition, as well as the provision of essential social amenities.

Welcoming the bishop on behalf of the traditional leadership and the people of the community, Aondo described the visit as a spiritual blessing and an opportunity to strengthen ties between the church and the community.

“Your visit is a great honour to us. Your visit is a spiritual blessing but also an opportunity to strengthen our relationship with the church and explore ways of bringing meaningful development to our community,” he said.

He said young people needed access to education, employment opportunities, moral guidance and a sense of hope, stressing the importance of initiatives that would improve their welfare and prospects.

“We are particularly concerned about our young people who need education, employment, moral guidance and a sense of hope,” Aondo said.

He assured the bishop of the community’s readiness to cooperate with the church on initiatives aimed at promoting peace, unity, human dignity and sustainable development.
