The people of Olayinka community in Ifelodun Local Government area of Kwara State, have pleaded for an urgent intervention of the state governor, Alhaji Abdulraman Abdulrazaq, to ensure the release of their kidnapped traditional ruler, Asamu of Olayinka, Oba Salman Aweda.
They lamented that the kidnap of their king has engendered fears in the community, causing many people to flee the area for safety. Oba Aweda who has been in captivity of the kidnappers for about eight weeks was kidnapped in his palace by terrorists on April 17, 2026.
The people of the community, in a statement by Chairman of Olayinka Community Development Association, OCDA, Mr. Rotimi Daniels and the community spokesperson, Mr. Omotayo Suleiman, lamented that the absence of their royal father has become worrisome and depressing.
According to them, “At our level, we have tried everything humanly possible to secure the release of our monarch, Oba Aweda, since his unfortunate kidnap by the terrorists and this has left all sons and daughters of the town, traumatised and depressed.

“Since the occurrence of the ugly incident on April 17, 2026, we have not left any stone unturned in our bid to secure the release of our kidnapped monarch. Despite this, all our efforts geared towards the safe return of Oba Aweda, have been to no avail.
“We are therefore passionately appealing to our governor, Alhaji Abdulrazaq, to urgently come to our aid in this regard so as to save the life of our royal father who is still being held by the terrorists.”
While thanking the governor for the improved security situation in the area, they pleaded with him for an urgent intervention that would ensure the speedy release of their traditional ruler from the grips of the terrorists.
They also commended the improved security situation in the area as being coordinated by soldiers, police and the DSS, urging the people of the area to join hands with them in ensuring a sustained secured environment for the safety of all.
