Senator Joel-Onowakpo Thomas representing Delta South senatorial district, has said he would appeal the judgment of the National Assembly Petition Tribunal in Asaba, Delta, which declared his election as inconclusive.
The All Progressives Congress, APC, senator, meanwhile, called on his supporters to remain calm.
Recall that the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the February 25, 2023, senatorial election, Mr. Michael Diden, had challenged Joel-Onowakpo’s election at the tribunal sitting in Asaba, Delta State.
The tribunal on Wednesday, declared the election inconclusive and ordered a rerun in Warri South Local Government Area of the state within 90 days from the day of judgment.

In a statement, yesterday, in Asaba, Joel-Onowakpo said though he had not received the certified true copy of the tribunal’s judgment, preliminary briefings by his lawyers showed that there were sufficient grounds for appeal which would ensure his victory.
According to him: “As I consult the leadership of our party and my legal team, be rest assured that, we will appeal this judgment and we will do everything within our God-given grace to defend our mandate.
“However, I wish to urge my teeming supporters and APC faithful in Delta South senatorial district to remain calm and show brotherly love to one another.”
He added, “Be rest assured that, by God’s grace, the mandate you gave to me at the polls will be defended and I will remain your Senator now and for the next four years.”
