Ighodalo polls 577 votes to emerge Edo PDP gov candidate

Dr. Asue Ighodalo has polled 577 votes to emerge Edo State Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, governorship candidate for the September 21, 2014, election in the state.

After voting, sorting and counting, Ighodalo got 577, Phillip Shaibu score 1, Anslem Ojezua score 0, Mr. Osaro Onaiwu scored 0, Mr. Arthur Esene scored 0, Mr. Martins Uhomoihi scored 0, Mr. Felix Akhabue scored 0 and Hafia Umoru scored 0.

Ighodalo was declared winner of the primary election in Benin City, Edo State by the Chief Returning Officer of the election and Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State.

He scored a total of 577 votes out of the 584 votes scored in the election.

PDP had 585 delegates from the 192 wards across the 18 local government areas of the state.

Akoko Edo has 30 delegates, Egor 30, Esan central 28, Esan North East 32, Esan South East 31, Esan West 31, Etsako Central 31, Etsako East 30, Etsako West 32, Igueben 30, Ikpoba Okha 30, Oredo 37, Orhionmwon 37, Ovia North East 40, Owan South West 31, Owan East 34, Owan West 34, Uhunmwode 31 delegates respectively.

The governorship primary election was held in a peaceful and coordinated atmosphere and had leaders from the National Working Committee, NWC and State Working Committee in attendance to witness the primary.

Recall that 10 aspirants purchased nomination form to contest for the sole candidacy.

During the short speech delivered by each aspirants, Omosede Igbinedion step down and declared her support for the candidacy of Ighodalo. Ogbeide Ihama also withdrew from the race.

The contestant present at the primary election were Mr. Anslem Ojezua, Mr. Osaro Onaiwu, Mr. Felix Akhabue, Mr. Arthur Esene, Mr. Martins Uhomoibhi, Hafia Umoru and Mr. Ighodalo

Ighodalo in his acceptance speech, Ighodalo thanked all the party leaders, delegates, and all national and state working committees of the PDP for making the day a reality.

“I want to assure Edo people that I am ready to work with everyone, the young and the old to ensure that we move Edo forward.

“I will ensure that the best hands form part of my government. We will plan together to ensure that we attain victory at the end of the journey,” he added.
