Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State, is scheduled to embark on an official working visit to Germany this Tuesday.
The mission aims to reinforce the state’s partnership with global construction giant Julius Berger, deepen technical collaboration, and secure more favourable terms for ongoing and future infrastructure projects.
The announcement was made by the Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr Charles Aniagwu, during a press briefing in Asaba.
He revealed that the Governor will be accompanied by himself and the Governor’s Technical Assistant. The briefing was also attended by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Sir Festus Ahon, and the Executive Assistant on Public Enlightenment, Projects, and Policies, Mr Olisa Ifeajika.
Aniagwu emphasised that the trip is strictly a working visit, designed to leverage Governor Oborevwori’s well-known negotiation skills to secure better deals and concessions that will benefit the state.
“The purpose of this visit is to strengthen our ongoing partnership with Julius Berger. His Excellency’s negotiation skills will be crucial in helping us achieve more favourable terms for the state,” he said.
He was clear that the visit was not for leisure but part of the administration’s ongoing efforts to improve project delivery and cost efficiency.
The Commissioner also recalled the success of a previous engagement with China, which led to the awarding of major contracts, including the ₦59 billion Agbor flyover and the ₦39 billion Otovwodo Junction flyover on the Warri-Patani Expressway.
Looking ahead, Aniagwu disclosed that the upcoming 2026 budget, estimated at ₦1.5 trillion, will prioritise capital projects, social welfare programs, and infrastructure expansion.
“Following the approval of the Medium-Term Expenditure Framework, ministries are currently fine-tuning their submissions before presenting them to the State Executive Council,” he explained.
On social initiatives, the Commissioner noted that Governor Oborevwori has directed that all forthcoming empowerment programs, set to begin next month, must be transparent and inclusive across all 25 local government areas.
Key ministries and agencies will collaborate to ensure these programs create sustainable livelihoods and boost productivity.
Aniagwu also announced that several groundbreaking ceremonies for new projects worth billions of naira, including the Otovwodo Junction Flyover, will take place in the coming weeks. These events underscore the government’s commitment to maintaining momentum in infrastructure development.
He concluded by assuring that the administration will not allow political timelines to hinder progress. Contractors have been instructed to maintain steady progress on all ongoing projects to ensure timely completion.
As Delta State prepares for this critical international engagement, the administration remains focused on harnessing global partnerships to accelerate infrastructural transformation and improve the lives of its residents.
